Beach and Bush Experience
Written by BethI wanted a break that incorporated everything a fantastic holiday should have. So I booked a holiday to Kenya that incorporated three nights staying at the Porini Safari Camps and seven nights at the Beau Rivage Hotel in Mauritius. I was able to stay at all three Safari camps, Porini Amboseli Camp in Selenky Conservancy neighbouring Amboseli National Park, then Porini Rhino Camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, followed by Porini Lion Camp in the Olare Orok Conservancy adjacent to the Mara Reserve. The Safari Camps are small and exclusive and run on the same environmentally sound principles - working closely with the local communities. They’re really laid back, and provide just enough comfort without being too manicured. I visited the largest rhino conservancy in East Africa overlooking the snow-capped Mount Kenya and one of the most famous wildlife reserves in Africa, the Maasai Mara, famous for its big cats and wildebeest migration. I had done my research and chosen to go to Kenya in September, the best time to see the migration - and I wasn’t disappointed, twice seeing wildebeest crossing the Mara River. I also saw cheetah with cubs, lion, leopard, elephant and much more. I was also lucky enough to meet some of the Maasai people and learn about their culture. Then on to the romantic island of Mauritius staying at the Beau Rivage, located close to a lagoon and beautiful white sandy beach.
The Beau Rivage is an amazing hotel and is in a stunning location on a spectacular white sandy beach, at Belle Mare, on the eastern coast of Mauritius. The staff were exceptionally attentive and all remembered my name from the word go - the beach boys were also especially welcoming and did a fabulous job of cleaning my sunglasses! The hotel really does like to pay attention to detail. There were plenty of water sports and activities available to keep me entertained, but after the safari I was more than happy to relax and sample the spa treatments on offer.
