Indulge your senses with Shangri-La’s pillow and scent menus

Shangri-La runs a chain of excellent five star hotels throughout the Far East. Exemplary service and attention to detail is one of the company’s defining qualities.

For example, in my room in the Ocean Wing of the Shangri-La Rasa Ria near Kota Kinabalu in Borneo we were treated to both a pillow menu and a scent menu.

If you don’t like the pillows or are allergic to something you can simply choose different ones. Each evening during the turn down service you also have the option of choosing a special candle and scented oil, with four or five different scents to add a little extra to the already luxurious rooms - such a nice touch, and typical of the style and attention to detail that Shangri-La is so proficient at.

As well as the Rasa Ria, Shangri-La have several other properties in Malaysia, including the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur and the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang in Penang on the country’s north west coast. I’ve found their first-rate service extends to them all, and is part of the reason I so enjoy visiting Malaysia.

It would have been nice to see a picture of the Ocean Wing of the Rasa Ria, rather than the photo of what looks like a room from the Shangr-La Hotel in KL.

well spotted - you are right, the photo is actually of the Shangri-La in Kuala Lumpur. I’ve contacted Shangri-La hotels to request a photo of the new Ocean Wing rooms at the Rasa Ria in Kota Kinabalu, so hopefully will be able to put the right picture up very soon
