Temple of Amun, Luxor
Written by Michelle -When travelling to Luxor, a visit to the great temple of Amun at Karnak is not to be missed! Karnak Temple is the single most magnificent monument in all of Egypt as it was the premier site of worship for most of the New Kingdom, Libyan and Saitic Pharaohs who all made additions to it during their reigns. As a result, it is enormous! My favourite section is the Avenue of the Sphinxes alongside the entrance – it’s simply amazing! The Hypostyle Hall is also pretty impressive with no less than 122 columns which are a staggering 80 feet high which made me feel quite dizzy. The whole place is so interesting and I would have liked to have stayed longer if it weren’t for the 43 degree heat and unrelenting sun! Make sure you get a guide, take a hat, stick to the shady parts as best you can and have plenty of water with you.
