The best way to reach Borneo is on the twice-daily Malaysia Airlines 747 flying out of Heathrow.
There is a flight at midday and one late at night, with the journey taking 12 hours non stop to Kuala Lumpur before a two-hour connection and a further two hours and 40 minute flight direct to Kota Kinabalu.
If it is a special holiday why not treat yourself to a business class flight? Malaysia Airlines’ new business class service has an almost flat bed, coupled with excellent food, drinks and impeccable service.
The champagne and satay [link] make you think you are already in Malaysia and it quite an experience sitting up in the bubble of a 747. At Heathrow and in Kuala Lumpur there is also a nice business class lounge so you can relax in comfort while waiting for your flight.
If you want to save money though, I would recommend flying on Etihad or Qatar Airways first to the Middle East and then onwards to Kuala Lumpur. Flight runs from Manchester as well as London.
Staying one night in Kuala Lumpur and then travel onwards with Asia Express, one of the new breed of low cost carriers, and you can reduce your airfares by several hundred pounds.
