There are not many sights that can compare to that of a wild elephant roaming in the beautiful savannahs of Africa.

The majestic African elephant is the largest land animal on earth, known for their intelligence, it is said that an elephant never forgets.

It was Aristotle who said that elephants are, “the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind”, and if you get the opportunity to get up close to one of these magnificent creatures you will undoubtedly agree.

Kenya Safari Holidays
One of the best countries to see them in their natural habitat is Kenya. Africa Sky’s Best of Kenya safari holiday offers the chance to view these beautiful creatres close up, whilst taking in the wonderful scenery of Amboseli National Park.

You can combine a safari holiday with a beach location on the Capital to Coast safari which combines Amboseli with a trip to Tsavo National Park before heading to the Mombasa coast to enjoy the beautiful tropical beaches.

Baby Elephant Orphanage
For a special treat, get up close with baby elephants in at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which is dedicated to the protection and preservation of Africa’s wildlife, especially elephants and black rhino.

Here you have the unique opportunity to experience the feeding of baby orphaned elephants and rhinos… up close!

A visit to the elephant orphanage is a lovely excursion and can easily be slotted into your safari itinerary. Located close to Wilson Airport, the orphanage is open for one hour daily at 11am. Guests can watch as the baby elephants are brought out for feeding and play time. It is such a delightful experience to witness the interaction between the elephants and the game keepers, and simply being so close to these fantastic animals.

As it is only open for an hour each day, it ensures that the elephants are not over-exposed to humans and have plenty of time to interact together.
Visitors are also able to foster one of the elephants, which helps with the cost of food, medical assistance and running the shelter.

Asian Elephant Tours
Of course Africa is not the only place to experience wild elephants. Visitors to India, Sri Lanka and parts of South East Asia can of course see the smaller but still impressive Indian elephants.

The Best of Sri Lanka Tour offers the chance to visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, while in Thailand, visitors to hotels like Evason Hideaway Hotel in Hua Hin can try elephant riding at the nearby elephant village.
