Tropical Sky’s Commercial Director Steve Garley is a regular visitor to Tobago and rates Coco Reef as the Caribbean island’s finest luxury hotel. He asks, what exactly is it that makes the resort so special?

Is it its superb location - close to the airport but far enough away so that there is no noise nuisance? The journey can even be made in the resort’s white Rolls Royce. On arrival, when you walk through the reception you see the most splendid sandy beach with a man-made reef to protect it and provide a home to a host of fish that even the most amateur snorkeller cannot miss.

Is it the variety of rooms? As well as Garden View and Ocean View rooms there are a variety of suites, ranging from excellently-equipped Junior Suites to the super-luxury Sunset Villa, with its own deck affording the best sunset views, a private garden and luxury lounge with state-of-the-art sound system and huge TV.

Is it he food prepared by the expert team of chefs? Coco Reef has three excellent restaurants with exciting menus that change every day. On my recent visit memorable dishes included spicy shrimp, delicious home-made pasta and a wonderful fondue.

But for me, I think the thing that really makes the resort is the team that run it. Manager Eric Feniet is always onsite and his attention to detail, his gentle chivvying of his staff and his mixing with the guests is an example that the whole team follow.
