Gatwick airport has some excellent staff, willing to help travellers in any way they canA recent report from the Competition Commission stated that they were “particularly concerned by BAA’s lack of responsiveness to the differing needs of its airline customers and hence passengers“. This has prompted action from the government who have stated that they will review the economic regulation of the UK’s airport system. But UK airports have a long way to go just to catch up with many overseas airports.

I was reminded of just how fantastic some of these facilities are when I read this post: UK Airport Passengers Need Swimming Pools. Singapore Changi airport is indeed a jewel of an airport. The facilities for travellers are outstanding and the whole complex has an air of calm efficiency. Unlike the turmoil at Heathrow terminal 5 in recent weeks.

Whilst it cannot be argued that UK airports have a long way to go before they match the award winning facilities available to travellers at Changi airport, there are many aspects of our homeland airports that are actually very good. A recent survey of passengers using airport car parking facilities resulted in considerable praise, particularly for car parking staff at airports in Scotland and those working in the immensely busy Gatwick airport car parks.

Attentive, courteous and helpful staff contribute a great deal to the overall experience that a traveller has of an airport and we are lucky to have staff in our airports who are, generally, willing to do whatever they can to help travellers who need assistance. Now all we need are the swimming pools.
